Concordance Essay
Learning a
language is an art. Mastering the language and learning vocabulary needs
practice. Academic writing requires use of synonymous words to describe rich
details. It is quite difficult to memorize a lot of words. An individual then
depends on print or online versions of various dictionaries available today.
People tend to have preferences of using such print or online versions. I
prefer to use Thesaurus and Merriam Webster only for the reasons stated below.
I prefer to use thesaurus mainly for
two reasons. When we search the synonym of a word using thesaurus, thesaurus
states what type of speech is that word. For example Thesaurus states whether
it is a noun, verb, or adjective and so forth. The synonyms of the words we
enter in the search are displayed as to the closer meanings and highlighted a
bit dark. This gives us clue to choose the word appropriately and use it.
Merriam Webster is
another favorite website of mine like, Thesaurus and gives a detail explanation
or definition of the word. Additionally, Merriam has a link defined for
English-Language learners and this link gives us meaning and also gives examples
of using these words in sentences. Some idioms and phrases using the words we
search are also listed. These dimensions
help a learner to come up with different ideas and make use of the best with
respect to his or her requirement.
Another reason to
like the mentioned web sites for any word assistance is because of the
popularity in the google search. The google search lists Thesaurus and Merriam
on top of any other sites. Thesaurus and Merriam sites serve the purpose and
have a clarity of how to use the words in sentences; what do the words mean in
idioms and phrases. I therefore prefer to use Thesaurus and Merriam to any
other websites for my word-meaning search and synonyms. SA
